Gideon

Preface

In the Holy book of Judges, the angel of the lord came down and sat under a mighty oak tree near where Gideon was threshing wheat. Gideon heard the sound of a great wind as though a twister was spinning and tumbling towards the fields in search of life upon which to wreak its havoc.

The angel of the Lord is not just a heavenly spirit but was the Lord himself who had come to choose the vessel he will use to deliver The children of Israel from the grips of the dark Lord Beelzebub.

When the angel took form, it said,

“The Lord is with you oh good and faithful servant. You have been chosen as The Lords own holy mighty warrior.”

Sarah spoke as though human.

Gideon gathered himself so as to reply to his mule Sarah,

“I hear the voice of the Lord coming from this beast. I fear Satan is at play.”

“But, if the Lord is truly with us, why did he need to appear out of a maelstrom to tell me of these things? Why did God not deliver the children of Israel himself instead of sending Moses? And why do you expect a poor farmer to do your will?”

Upon those words the heavens let lose a thunderclap and burst of lightening that fell Gideon to his knees and he began to pray with all his might.

“Oh my God forgive me.”

The voice of God spoke, as his image appeared in the face of his stead. But wait, was all this a cleaver ruse concocted by the devil to put a fly in the ointment? We know that Satan often works his mischief in disguise and is not above trickery and deceit.

“Go with all your strength to save all my earthy children for the evil one will appear and you must face him and wrestle with him for all the world to witness so that good will be seen to conquer all the evil that Satan has wrought upon mankind. I will be with you and strike down the evil forces.”

But my clan is of the weakest in Manasseh and I am the weakest of the tribe.”

Gideon is a mere humble farmer and doesn’t feel like a mighty warrior but more like a human weakling.

“I fear for my life my God. I fear for my wife and family. Who will care for them if I leave on this quest?”

“Go ye in the strength of a pure spirit for you are now the chosen one. Remember, I am with you.”

And with those words the angel and his wind departed.

Gideon knew that Archangel was a word that had been derived from Greek archangelos, meaning chief angel. An Archangel is the chief messenger or a higher messenger, who is above the angel. A person can call angels for any personal help but he or she cannot call archangels for any personal help so he knew that heavenly forces were at work. All notions of self-doubt were laid to rest thus allowing for purpose in events that followed.
