The fallen angel, Satan sat on a smoldering tree stump, eyeing Gideon, contemplating ways to deal with this impudent old preacher.

“Listen closely mortal. You know me well. I hear your self-righteous sermons taking me to task, I know them by rote.

You and your God have not given me rest since the day the archangel Michael defeated me and cast me down on the earth in the mighty war in heaven.”

“Yes, sir oh dragon of hell, you disgraced and dishonored fallen angel.”

At that Satan let out a roar of laughter in a wind that blew Gideons hair and beard aback in a smoldering wind.

“The war in heaven rages still in the hearts and minds of sinner and devotee alike. God cast me out but I shall roam the earthly highways and streets for all eternity for I am above mortals as an Angel, even as one who has fallen from grace .”

The arrogance of Satan prevailed because he was correct, he had been a heavenly angel until the moment he was cast out like so much spiritual rubbish.

“Come ye infertile old one. You dare provoke my wrath mortal?”

“I fear ye not, for the Lord my God is with me and restores my soul and defends my body. Your pitiful words do me no harm evil Satan.”

Now the Prince of darkness had grown impatient.

“Have you forgotten your own mortal frailty Gideon?”

“No, I have not, for it is true that I am a mere mortal servant of the Lord. Nor shall I be fearful beyond reason. For it is written in the sacred dead sea scrolls. A day will come when my minions shall call you to task and we shall defeat thee in a mighty arena with all the world to witness. And my servant shall rent thy robes and dray thy blood and eviscerate you until you repent and weep and plead for God’s benevolent mercies.”
